backstory

Born the son of a village blacksmith, Richard grew restless with small town life and left at 16 to seek his fortune. He fell in with a group of adventurers and learned swordsmanship from a grizzled mercenary.

His life changed when he rescued the elderly Lady Elissa Fauxe from bandits. Impressed by his bravery, she brought him into the service of her son, Lord Gideon Fauxe.

Richard spent the next decade honing his combat skills and rising to command Fauxe's personal guard.

Richard's deeds and reputation caught the attention of the royal court. At age 30, he was inducted into the Starkeepers, the elite knights who guard the Dawnstar. He became their leader through grit and dedication.

As a common-born man in a world of nobles, Richard has had to work twice as hard to prove himself.

backstory

The eldest son of Lord Gideon Fauxe, Alric was raised to inherit Trophyhill and carry on the Fauxe legacy of master hunters.

His family's curse manifested in his youth, in the form of beast blood, transforming Alric into a wolf every full moon.
However, Alric has always been a master of controlling himself, even when transformed.

Alric became a Starkeeper after Sir Richard Whitlock recommended him to the Dawnstar.

Alric then completed the Keeper trial set for him and was chosen by the Dawnstar, becoming their lover as well as protector.

Some years later, Alric was targeted by an Irradiyan spy who used blood magic to worsen the beast blood curse and slowly drove Alric insane. This culminated in Alric eventually losing control, transforming into a monstrous wolf and attacking the Dawnstar, though he was ultimately slain by Sir Adrian Pascal.

backstory

Kieran was born the youngest son of Lord Daerik Greene. Through his childhood, he expected to follow family tradition and become a dragonrider, like his older brothers.

But at his Night of Choosing, no dragon egg hatched for him.
After this, Kieran briefly ran away to Shimmerglass in the far east as a teenager and trained to be an acrobat, hoping to join a travelling show and see the rest of Eternia, but his older brothers forced him to come home.

Feeling purposeless and out of place in his own family, Kieran eventually left for Skycrest and trained as a knight, finding some fulfillment in service.

He was eventually chosen as one of the Dawnstar's six Keepers, after Sir Alric Fauxe, a good friend of Kieran's.

Upon a visit to the royal capital Skycrest, a then-21 year old Adrian bore witness to Starkeeper Alric Fauxe transforming into a monstrous wolf, corrupted and driven insane by Irradiyan sorceries.
Adrian took on the beastly Keeper and slew him with his father's sword - Lionheart - saving the life of the Dawnstar in the process.

For this act, Adrian was granted the position of Keeper, an honor rarely granted on one so young.

Sir Pascal quickly became devoted to the Dawnstar, and is an ardent and honorable knight.

However, the guilt of killing a fellow Keeper haunts him.

Asperian's only true companion is Bloodbane. Together they ceaselessly patrol the skies, as if seeking to prove his worth and redeem his family's honor.

However, his life changed forever when he encountered a young Oberon, who had fallen into the sea during a storm while visiting Crowsroost.
Without hesitation, Cuiran dove into the raging waters and pulled Oberon to safety.

In gratitude, Oberon named Cuiran as his Starkeeper, an unprecedented honor for a member of a lesser house.

Cuiran accepted and has since served Oberon with unwavering loyalty for over four decades, becoming the King's closest confidant and protector - though Cuiran's unexpected elevation to Starkeeper caused some friction within House Rodden, many of whom see it as a 'frivolous' role for a sailor and warrior.

Gideon underwent the painful first transformation into a werebear during adolescence, seen as a rite of passage for all children of House Fauxe who carry the cursed blood.

He became Lord of House Fauxe and master of Trophyhill after his mother's death, and entered a political, loveless marriage to Elara Erlewine, the melancholy second-eldest daughter of House Erlewine.

Gideon has sired three children, Alric, Lyra (his only daughter) and Tristan, with his eldest son Alric being his pride and, prior to Alric's untimely death, heir apparent.

Torrin orchestrated an internal coup at thirty-two to become Guildmaster; he has ruled ever since with a blend of charisma and utter ruthlessness.
Known for negotiating contracts with both nobility and criminals; trusted by none, but respected by all.
Has no desire to rule the Tunnel's criminal underworld, but nonetheless exerts a degree of influence to ensure his businesses run freely.

He sought power and immortality, praying to the god Verve to "make his love eternal". Verve granted his wish, bestowing upon him magical regenerative abilities that made him nearly invincible.

However, the blessing came with a cruel twist - a curse that caused everything he touched to wither and decay, including his own flesh.

This left him in constant agony, his body slowly rotting away despite its ability to regenerate. The curse also made him an outcast, unable to touch food, plants, or other living beings without destroying them.

Driven by pain and isolation, he became a killer for hire, his only solace found in the touch of his lover, who is inexplicably immune to his curse.

notes

After running away from the orphanage, Rorik disappeared into the undercity where he learned to steal. Finding that his greed outstripped the poor pickings gained from cutting purses, Rorik joined a company of treasure hunters (known as the 'Miser's Sons') when he turned 16. The old man in charge of the company took Rorik in as something of an apprentice and foster son.

For many years Rorik enjoyed adventures and wealth as part of the company, though he became resentful of being ordered around. Rorik ultimately ended up slaying the old company master, taking his place as leader of the Miser's Sons.

backstory

Deiliel was born into privilege as the youngest child of Lord Eridyn and Lady Lilia Vilegore.

Unlike his older siblings - who have distinct ambitions - Deiliel was largely left to indulge himself without responsibility.

As the 'baby' of the family, Deiliel spent most of his childhood clinging to his mother or his sibling Therin, both of whom indulged and spoiled him.

Exposed to depravity and violence from an early age, Deiliel soon become one of the most bloodthirsty of the Vilegores, though he maintains a charming front for court.

Deiliel idolizes his mother more than his father but fears disappointing either.

notes
- Has never actually personally killed anyone, despite his bragging

- Keeps a "pet" human servant named Lysander who he's trained to laugh at appropriate moments

- Extremely greedy when it comes to drinking blood, will often drain until victim passes out.
